It was 4 p.m. at WFAN in New York when the top of the hour news sounder fired and Ed Coleman announced the deal: The New York Mets had acquired Kris Benson and Victor Zambrano.

Great news, right? Despite mediocre results over the first four months of the 2004 season, the Mets had bolstered their starting pitching and were hoping to make a push for a postseason run.
