New York Mets GM Billy Eppler insisted it’s not a “fire sale.”

One day earlier, David Robertson was traded to the Miami Marlins.

We are not “rebuilding,” added Eppler.

Then he proceeded to ship Max Scherzer off to Texas and Mark Cahna to Milwaukee.

It’s not a purge, Eppler insists, the Mets are “repurposing” team resources. Oh, now there’s a fancy new word. Call it what you will, the 2023 season just went up in smoke that leaves just one rebuttal: Liar, liar pants on fire, Mr. Eppler.
