You would think the first New York Mets player to record a hit at the Polo Grounds would be Richie Ashburn, Frank Thomas, Gil Hodges, or Jim Hickman, right? Even the likes of Choo-Choo Coleman wouldn’t be too much of a stretch.

But let’s not forget, these were the 1962 New York Mets. Oddities are probably the one thing the original team excelled in doing. Even before the first game things got weird.
