The New York Mets opened the 1978 season at Shea Stadium against the Montreal Expos. Following a 3-1 win on Opening Day behind a brilliant complete game by Jerry Koosman, the Mets and Expos returned to the diamond for the middle game of the series with Nino Espinosa on the mound.
