The last thing John Olerud remembers as he walked off the track at Washington State was an intense vice-like headache then … blackness.
Hours later, Olerud woke up in the Spokane Hospital surrounded by family.
EMS rushed Olerud to the nearby college hospital. When the medical staff failed to stabilize him, Olerud was medivacked to Spokane before Olerud’s father (a physician) stepped in and requested his son be seen by a neurosurgeon from the University of Washington.
