Mets Catching History
The New York Mets have had 107 players catch at least one game in franchise history. No one has caught more games than Jerry Grote (1,176).
If I was playing word association and the topic was “Mets catchers,” I believe the first player that comes to mind is John Stearns. I suppose that is all part-and-parcel to growing up Mets in the late 70s (of course, Stearns returned as a coach in the 90s and is remembered for his “monster is out of the cage” moment in the postseason). Stearns was selected by fans to the @MetsRewind All-Time Most Underrated Team in 2023.
But that’s just me. As for the franchise, there is a rich history of memories that include Amazin’ moments from past and present catchers.
