From 1962-2024, the New York Mets have employed 640 different pitchers (and a handful of position players) appeared in at least one game as a pitcher.

Roger Craig made the first start in franchise history on April 11, 1962. He went on to record a handful of franchise firsts including the first strikeout by a Mets pitcher (Gene Oliver, St. Louis, second inning).

For seven decades the Mets fans have witnessed a long list of remarkable pitching talent and Amazin’ performances in blue and orange including Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Jerry Koosman, Jon Matlack, Dwight Gooden, Bob Ojeda, Frank Viola, David Cone, Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine, Al Leiter, Mike Hampton, Johan Santana, R.A. Dickey, Jacob deGrom, Bartolo Colon, Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander.

From blazing fastballs and knee-buckling curves to sliders, changeups and one outrageous knuckleballer, the Mets have a long, impressive pitching history filled with 20-game winners, Cy Young winners, All-Star appearances and postseason excellence.

Below, MetsRewind has compiled a series of Amazin’ pitching performances and careers worthy of celebration. We hope you enjoy rewinding these magical moments in Mets history.
