Dateline: 1964.

The 1964 baseball season was memorable for New York Mets fans. The franchise left behind the Polo Grounds and moved into a new ballpark, Shea Stadium. It also marked the first time that nine-year old Pete Mandlekern laid eyes on Shea Stadium.

“It was the most modern stadium at home,” said Mandlekern. “It was a beautiful place.“
