A half serious, half joking Tom Seaver confessed that he knew his pitching career was over when light-hitting backup catcher Barry Lyons crushed a home run into the left-field bullpen.
Seaver pitched four innings (60+ pitches), allowing four runs and 10 hits in a simulated game game at Shea Stadium.
“I was mediocre,” he told a gaggle of New York media.
