The Mystery of Dave Kingman

Dave Kingman had two tenures with the New York Mets. When his name comes up in baseball circles today, the reaction is mixed.

A few years ago I began asking people who worked or played for the New York Mets if they knew how I could get in touch with Dave Kingman.

“Why?” one person replied.

“Because I’d like to talk to him for a story,” I said.

“No, why would you — or anyone — want to interview Kingman?”

Well know, that short interaction only makes Kingman’s story more curious, if not delicious.
