Pete Alonso’s three-run home run in the first inning of the Mets 12-6 win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday at Citi Field felt like watching history in real time.

The home run was Alonso’s 250th in his 7th year of his career with the Mets. He is now just two home runs behind Darryl Strawberry for the franchise record (252) in home runs.
