It was late May and the New York Mets had climbed their way to .500 when Tom Seaver mowed down the Atlanta Braves, throwing a three-hit complete game shutout, 5-0, at Shea Stadium.
To most baseball followers, playing .500 baseball in May is not much of an accomplishment; for Mets fans it was a huge victory because the franchise had never played .500 or better that far into the regular season.
