Two weeks ago, New York Mets owner Steve Cohen appeared on CNBC and it was no surprise when he was pressed on the state of his $2.5 billion purchase.

CNBC: You don't think about this as philanthropic, do you?

Steve Cohen: I do.

CNBC: You do?

Steve Cohen: That's why I bought the team. I actually view it as a civic responsibility.
